Answer (1 of 7): It's a personal choice, I'm an outdoors sort of guy and I've tried pretty well everything in thermals for winter outside and I have settled on thick microfibre or cotton rich/wool tights of 100D or over. In these I know my lower half is going to be toasty warm.
