About%20the%20Original%20Strong%20Athletic%20Woman%20Baseball%20T-Shirt%0D%0AThe%20Story%20behind%20the%20Strong%20Athletic%20Woman%20Baseball%20T-shirt%0D%0AThis%20is%20the%20original%20Strong%20Athletic%20Woman%20Baseball%20T-shirt%20by%20Strong%20Athletic%2C%20first%20produced%20in%202014%20for%20the%20Roller%20Derby%20World%20Cup%20in%20Dallas%2C%20Texas.%20Originally%20Strong%20Athletic%20was%20simply%20an%20idea%20and%20a%20phrase.%20Founder%20Nadia%20Kean%20would%20call%20teammates%20a%20%22fine%20group%20of%20strong%2C%20athletic%2C%20women%22.%20Fellow%20teammate%20Cristen%20Perks%20was%20learning%20how%20to%20create%20art%20on%20adobe%20illustrator%20and%20screen%20print%20it%20on%20to%20shirts%20and%20hoodies.%20As%20a%20gift%20for%20Christmas%20in%202013%20she%20put%20the%20three%20words%20on%20a%20gray%20shirt%2C%20stacked%20and%20in%20alignment%20in%20bold%20white%20ink.%20The%20shirt%20read%2C%20%22Strong%20Athletic%20Woman%22.%20That%20Christmas%20gift%20changed%20Nadia's%20life%2C%20but%20at%20the%20time%2C%20it%20wasn't%20apparent%20how%20it%20would%20happen.%20In%202014%20Nadia%20asked%20Cristen%20if%20she%20could%20print%20a%20run%20of%20the%20shirts%20for%20friends%20who%20wanted%20one.%20That%20year%20in%20June%20Cristen%20made%20about%2060%20shirts%20and%20Nadia%20sold%20them%20at%20Philly%20Roller%20Derby's%20very%20popular%20WFTDA%20sanctioned%20tournament%20ECDX.%20All%20of%20these%20shirts%20were%20unbranded%2C%20so%20just%20the%20three%20words%20on%20the%20front%20but%20no%20art%20otherwise.%20From%20then%2C%20they%20decided%20to%20brand%20the%20shirts%2C%20and%20used%20the%20name%20that%20Nadia%20coached%20under-%20Get%20Smarty%20Coaching.%20That's%20why%20these%20shirts%20say%20Get%20Smarty%20Coaching%20on%20them%2C%20rather%20than%20Strong%20Athletic.%20In%202015%2C%20Nadia%20and%20Cristen%20decided%20to%20separate%20Get%20Smarty%20Coaching%20from%20Strong%20Athletic%20and%20Nadia%20hired%20Angel%20Ortega%20to%20design%20the%20Strong%20Athletic%20logo.%20Since%20then%20all%20of%20our%20shirts%20have%20had%20the%20Strong%20Athletic%20logo%20on%20both%20the%20front%20and%20the%20back.%20So%2C%20if%20you%20ever%20see%20a%20Tultex%20grey%20t-shirt%20with%20Strong%20Athletic%20Woman%20printed%20o%20them%2C%20it's%20an%20original.%20If%20you%20see%20one%20with%20the%20Get%20Smarty%20Coaching%20logo%20on%20it%2C%20it's%20the%20second-generation%26nbsp%3B%20of%20our%20shirts%2C%20and%20if%20you%20see%20shirts%20with%20the%20Strong%20Athletic%20logo%20you%20know%20that%20it's%20part%20of%20the%20third%20generation%20of%20our%20shirts.%26nbsp%3B%0D%0ANadia%20Kean%20played%20roller%20derby%20as%20Smarty%20Pants%20for%20Texas%20Rollergirls.%20While%20she%20was%20on%20the%20team%20she%20started%20to%20find%20it%20harder%20and%20harder%20to%20shake%20off%20the%20irritation%20she%20felt%20any%20time%20she%20or%20her%20teammates%20were%20referred%20to%20as%20%22girls%22.%20The%20infantilization%20of%20grown%20women%20is%20not%20a%20new%20thing%2C%20yet%20it%20is%20still%20a%20prominent%20problem%20in%20most%20of%20society.%20One%20might%20not%20consider%20it%20to%20be%20a%20big%20deal%20to%20simply%20refer%20to%20an%20adult%20woman%20as%20a%20%22girl%22%20every%20now%20and%20then%2C%20but%20when%20you%20do%20so%2C%20you%20are%20making%20a%20statement%20that%20women%20do%20not%20deserve%20the%20respect%20that%20they%20are%20due.%20Women%20are%20already%20asked%20to%20take%20a%20back%20seat%20in%20most%20of%20society%2C%20and%20in%20sport%20it%20is%20no%20different.%20Women%20are%20not%20expected%20to%20play%20sport%20after%20the%20age%20of%2018%2C%20and%20if%20they%20do%2C%20they%20are%20considered%20a%20novelty.%20The%20majority%20of%20female%20athletes%20in%20the%20world%20will%20not%20make%20their%20income%20off%20of%20athletics%20and%20when%20they%20do%20tell%20people%20that%20they%20play%20a%20sport%2C%20especially%20one%20that%20is%20considered%20to%20be%20a%20%22male%20dominated%22%20sport%2C%20folks%20act%20surprised.%20Nadia's%20hope%20is%20that%20women%20will%20wear%20the%20Strong%20Athletic%20Woman%20Baseball%20T-shirt%20and%20in%20doing%20so%20they%20will%20help%20to%20foster%20conversations%20about%20the%20importance%20of%20calling%20people%20what%20they%20wish%20to%20be%20called.%0D%0AEver%20wonder%20when%20to%20use%20the%20word%20%22girl%22%20and%20the%20word%20%22woman%22%3F%20Nadia%20believes%20that%20if%20you're%20referring%20to%20someone%20whose%20gender%20identify%20is%20female%20and%20who%20is%20under%20the%20age%20of%2014%2C%20the%20word%20girl%20is%20appropriate%2C%20but%20after%20that%20age%2C%20ask%20the%20person%20what%20they%20want%20to%20be%20referred%20to%20as.%20If%20they%20are%20older%20than%2018%2C%20never%20refer%20to%20them%20as%20a%20girl.%20Not%20only%20is%20it%20inaccurate%2C%20but%20it%20can%20also%20be%20insulting%20to%20the%20person%20you%20are%20speaking%20to%20our%20about.%20Nadia%20and%20the%20rest%20of%20the%20Strong%20Athletic%20Team%20are%20constan
