Sohmer & Co was one of the old New York-based piano builders that emerged in the late 19th Century. They developed a reputation for making high-quality, long-lasting pianos, and held their own against the likes of Steinway and Chickering until the early 1980s when the company was sold. Because of their build quality, you still can find very good, functional instruments in the used market.
